Seafood and great wine ....
Nearer to the southern part of the UK than Manchester, with all the great food and wine you could desire, Brittany is a fantastic destination even for short trips. It has to be said the tolls on French motorways and bridges challenge the idea of inexpensive breaks but then there are several ferry ports right on the doorstep.
Dont leave it too long before you go
Having marvelled at the old timber buildings in many of the towns, a trip to Rennes and the reality of large boarded off areas where buildings have decayed, soon makes the traveller realise that this is perhaps not all here for ever.

I would love to visit again and again, watching as the seasons change.
Relaxing at a pavement cafe people watching, or wandering the streets, is a pleasure and time is easily forgotten. From the walled town of St Malo to the streets of Dinan, there is so much to see, not to mention eat ! The seaside town of Cancale is known for its Huitres (oysters) and looking over the sea wall it can easily be seen how many have enjoyed this before.
If your journey to the bay of Mont St Michel should bring you near the port of Dieppe or Le Havre, you might chance a few hours near the mouth of the river Seine at the town of Honfleur. Its a great spot for the tourists and a busy harbour, full of character and life with many places to eat or stay overnight.
Its the simple charm of the quieter roads that delights.
